Saying Goodbye to An Old Friend
On the last day of 2013, Adam and I said goodbye to a dear friend: the huge Barnes and Noble bookstore on Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. Dec. 31st was its last day open to the public.
Only in a bookstore in "Cow Town" would you find this guy, spanning both floors of the spacious Barnes and Noble:
I'm gonna miss that guy. Let's call him "Barney Noble," shall we? Yes. I'll miss old Barney Noble.
This book was called "Goodnight Fort Worth," a children's book along the lines of "Goodnight Moon." Reading it felt like a goodbye to the city, even though it's not going anywhere. I was born in Fort Worth, and growing up in the area, downtown Fort Worth always seemed like this perfect downtown space. Sundance square is very user-friendly, with free and easy parking on nights and weekends, lots of restaurants, a movie theatre, shops, art galleries, and Bass Hall on top of the bars and clubs one expects in a downtown entertainment district. Adam and I had our first date in downtown Fort Worth, in this very Barnes and Noble, and while Fort Worth still has my heart, Sundance Square won't be the same without this wonderful bookstore, closed now because of leasing expenses.
Goodnight, Barnes and Noble on Sundance Square.
(P.S. While we were there, we tried this new place to eat called The Bird Cafe. It was delicious. I highly recommend it.)
