Holiday Style: Advent Blues and Purples

One of my favorite parts of Christmastime is the opportunity to pull out all my shiniest, sparkliest accessories and red & green clothing pieces to enjoy the sartorial side of the season. This year, however, instead of going full-on Santa's village right after Thanksgiving, I've been observing Advent in a subtle way by opting for the blues and purples traditionally associated with the Advent season. 

Choosing bright jewel tones of amethyst and sapphire and adding sparkly touches to more subdued ensembles keeps the mood festive enough for the inevitable Christmas treats and parties, while staying true to the theme of hope and longing represented by Advent blues and purples.

I won't be spending the full four weeks of Advent in more subdued tones -- the reds and greens are on their way -- but even this small practice of clothing colors helps me to remember the quiet anticipation of a season so often filled with noise.
