Song Stories: Wonderland

I thought it might be fun to start a new "song stories" feature here on the blog, where I talk about some of my music and the inspiration for it. Since this week is Valentine's week, it seemed like a good time to talk about "Wonderland," from my EP, Girl on a String. (Listen and download for free here or listen below).

I got the idea for "Wonderland" on my honeymoon in Boston. Our preferred way to explore a city is via foot and public transit, so we eagerly availed ourselves of the Boston subway system during our stay. One end of Boston's blue line terminates at a stop called "Wonderland," and the phrase "blue line to Wonderland" immediately lodged itself in my imagination. As often happens when writing, the song took on a life of its own during the writing process, and it became a song about two people running away together -- the romantic elopement of my imagination. Of course there are pieces of reality thrown in. 7 years of marriage later, and I'm still happy to say, "It's a lifetime, baby, but I think we'll find some grace to face the best and worst of times."

I hope you enjoy this song, and I'd like to take the opportunity to wish a very Happy Valentine's Day to my love, Adam.
