Spring Break Arts District Party

On Friday, the husband and I headed down to Dallas's art district for a special art block party. There were food trucks, all the museums were open late, there were special events for kids and grown-ups, and there was live music and a screening of Labyrinth on the lawn of the Nasher sculpture center. The art district does this sort of thing once a month during the summer and sporadically at other times of year, and it's a great, free event that works equally well for dates, groups of friends, or families.

Until this experience, I never really "got" food trucks. After eating deep fried risotto balls and an amazing ice cream sandwich made of double-chocolate cookies and coffee-oreo ice cream, I am now a food truck convert.

Klyde Warren Park is just across the street from the arts district, and it has additional food options and lots of play area for kids and lounge area for adults. It was really fun for me to see so many families out relaxing and throwing around a ball and just enjoying being outside together in the middle of Dallas.

Labyrinth is the classic-creepy-kooky movie every 80s child knows. Also, there's something kind of magical about watching a movie outdoors on blankets while surrounded by beautiful sculptures and the skyscrapers of downtown Dallas.
