Stepping into Spring

This week, I saw this commercial on TV:

You may have gathered from my occasional discussions about shopping temptation that I'm something of a Target fanatic, and this commercial did not help. When the seasons change, I get clothing cravings similar to food cravings. You know how when you're craving pasta and a commercial for Olive Garden comes on and suddenly you've never wanted anything as much as you want that those golden breadsticks and steaming plates of cheesy carbohydrates? No? That only happens to me? Well, that's what seeing this Target ad was like for me at this point in the No-new-clothes-challenge. This spring, I'm especially craving all things navy or cobalt blue, mint, and coral; floral prints; lacy, flowy bohemian looks; and anything that makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn. Following this craving, I delved into the clothes I had packed away for the winter and pulled out anything that came close to fitting in the above categories. With relish, I stuffed my thick sweaters in boxes and bags to hibernate for another year. Then it got cold again, so this is how I compromised:

Blue? check. Coral? check (Although it's hard to tell in the photo, the cherries on the sweater are a bright coral). Audrey Hepburn? Big Check. This jacket, which I found at a resale shop last fall and was encouraged to buy by some dear friends, makes me feel like I'm in the final scene of Breakfast at Tiffany's. I try to act it out at home with my husband and our own orange Tabby, but Molly doesn't like getting wet. The shoes are actually new. As stipulated in the no-new-clothes rules, I am allowed to buy shoes, and since my trusty neutral "nude" flats were starting to wear out, I happily replaced them with these beauties from -- you guessed it -- Target.

According to the website, these are supposed to be the color I bought, called "natural," but the real color is much closer to a light peach. These shoes come in several colors, are made of real leather (which is quite rare at a place like Target), and they are very comfortable. I came close to getting the cherry ones or the navy ones before making the practical choice of a neutral. You can see them all here.  On a side note, not many people know this blog exists yet, so I'm not one of those bloggers who gets paid to feature products or stores on their site or who gets paid when visitors click through on shopping links. Maybe one day I'll be one of those bloggers, and if I ever am, I think Target should know how faithful I am. Do you hear that, Target powers-that-be? This blogger loves you, so if you ever want to send a little cash my way for saying so -- well, I'll probably just turn around and spend it on your store.
