What I've Read -- The Bookshop Hotel
Do yourself a favor: carve out 2 hours of time on a quiet afternoon, get a cup of the best coffee or tea you can find, and read this delightful novella, The Bookshop Hotel.
I should probably be up front and tell you that a college friend of mine wrote this book, but even were that not the case, The Bookshop Hotel is the kind of book I would happily recommend to anyone who enjoys spending an afternoon with endearing characters in a cozy small town, any lover of truthful tales of romance and friendship, or any bibliophile who has ever dreamed of getting lost in stacks and stacks of books in the perfect bookstore. The human characters of The Bookshop Hotel will draw you in, but the main character -- the eponymous bookshop -- will make you want to stay in this story forever, surrounded by beloved authors, coffee, and friends.
And can I say again how much I love a good novella? It's such a treat to get lost in another world for a couple of hours and emerge in time for dinner. And this novella satisfies while still hinting at a sequel, promising more afternoons spent wrapped in the subtle spell of this simple and lovely world.
