5 decades of popular Irish music
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here's some popular music from the last 5 decades to help you celebrate.
1970s: Van Morrison.
Sure, everybody loves "Brown-eyed Girl," but did you also know he's responsible for "Moon Dance," "Crazy Love," and a host of other gorgeous singer-songwriter classics, like "Into the Mystic" (above)?
1980s: U2
No collection of Irish musicians is complete without them.
1990s: The Cranberries
Because the song will always be stuck "in your he-e-a-ad, in your he-e-a-ad..."
2000s: Snow Patrol
Because their smash hit, "Chasing Cars" will always take me back to the first time I heard it during Grey's Anatomy's golden days.
This Decade: Hozier
I know not everybody's on board with the hit, "Take Me To Church," so let's just table that song for now, and focus on Hozier's wonderfully gravelly voice and cool retro tones in his other single, "From Eden."
Bonus: For your Saint Patrick's Day devotion -- a look at the beloved Irish hymn, "Be Thou My Vision" that I wrote for Thinking Through Christianity.
Happy St. Paddy's Day!
